Suzak District is one of the largest districts of Jalal-Abad Region, located in the south of the Kyrgyz Republic. The district is distinguished by its geographical location, natural resources, mountain ranges, forests, and rivers.

General Geographical Information

Suzak District is one of the largest districts of Jalal-Abad Region in the south of the Kyrgyz Republic. By population, the district ranks second after Kara-Suu District and is located in the well-known Kok-Art Valley, adjacent to the Fergana Valley.

The district borders Bazar-Korgon District to the west and northwest, Uzgen District to the southeast, Toguz-Toro District to the northeast, and the Republic of Uzbekistan to the south and southwest.

The northern part of the district is located in the Kok-Art Valley, surrounded by the Fergana mountain ranges at an elevation of 1100–2200 meters above sea level.

Natural Resources

The district is home to walnut forests such as Kara-Alma, Ortok, and Urum-Bash. These areas are an important part of the natural ecosystem of the district.

The Kok-Art, Changet-Sai, and Kara-Darya rivers also flow through the district and form the basis of its water resources.

The district is rich in various minerals and natural resources. There are three well-known coal deposits located here: Kök-Jaŋgak, Markai, and Kum-Bel.

Climatic Conditions

The climate is continental: hot and dry in summer, moderately cold in winter. These conditions are favorable for the development of agriculture.

The average temperature is +26.3°C in the valleys and +23.2°C in the mountains.

Minimum Temperature

It drops to –30°C in the valleys and to –35°C in the mountainous areas.

Annual Precipitation

Annual precipitation is 456 mm in the valleys and up to 1090 mm in the mountains.

The district’s climate creates favorable conditions for the development of almost all types of agriculture.

Transport Location

A strategic railway passes through the district, starting from Kök-Jaŋgak and connecting Bishkek through Jalal-Abad, Tashkent, and Zhambyl.

The Osh–Bishkek highway, which passes through the ayil aimaks of Suzak, Yrys, Atabekov, and Barpy, is an important transport route for the district.

In addition, the alternative Balykchy–Jalal-Abad road, connecting the north and south of the country, passes through the ayil aimaks of Kurmanbek, Kök-Art, and Bagysh.

Conclusion

Suzak District stands out for its geographical location, combination of mountainous and valley landscapes, forests, rivers, mineral resources, and climatic conditions.

Owing to these features, Suzak District is one of the important areas of Jalal-Abad Region in social, economic, and environmental terms.
